Oh yeah, you got your work cut out for you.

I have seen several similar pictures. Not the same thing but I built a bed with drawers down both sides on about 36" runners. Very fussy. They don't put anything in them.

And I tore out the steps at my Grandmother's house. They had been there well over 100 years. (Pine treads that were dished out from wear and my Dad wanted to turn the flat side up. Someone had beat me to it and they were worse on the other side.) My point to you is, there was a lot of crud under the steps. So if you do this, seal them up nicely.
