Need a pull inspiration

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.

It is said to design a piece from the hardware back. I always save it for last and then puzzle. Drawer:

Leaning to a finger pull attached to top of drawer. Daughter, the customer not smitten by this idea.

Top- rock flanked by walnut

Burnt Umber stain, two highly thinned coats of Kemvar conversion varnish for close to wood appearance and durability.

Shop I used to work for made a couple really nice knobs that would suit. Both were black (they used zircote) one was turned on the lathe, a nice parabolic curve to the back with a shallow dome for the front, just 3/4" or so tall and a little more than 1/2" diameter. The other was square of similar proportions but with a shallow pyramid for the top, curved sides on the back done at the belt sander against a ~3" wheel. I have one of the round ones for the pulley cover on my lathe, I can ask my wife to go snap a picture if you're interested (I'm at work, a couple hours away).

How about using a Fossil *LINK*

Keith Newton

You could epoxy it onto something to screw into from the back. Here is a link to get you started, but I’m sure you can find more once you start looking.

Do you have any scraps of the rock left over? If so, you could find someone with skills in processing gemstones to grind and polish some round cabochons that you could glue into the face of walnut pulls that you could turn with recesses to fit. The recesses would be easiest to mak by drilling into the end of the turning with a Forstner bit.

Working on it....

Its turning into a hassle though. Two non-tech savvy old people trying to get it to work. She texted a photo, and I can't get it out of the text.... got to pay for some idiotic Verizon app without a doubt!

Ok...

So I can text it to you if you have a smart phone (I only got dragged into the 21st century last year, so I don't expect people to have them :D ). I asked her to share it over google photos too, then I should be able to save it to my computer and post it normally.... we'll see how that goes.

It's so convenient for everyone to have a camera in their phone, but man do the providers make it hard to get the media off the phone! No surprise, there's all these $10/month services they want you to use. Being more geared towards open source systems, I find phones exceedingly frustrating :D

Here it is....

We used to make these (and all knobs) as stick's of three, there were always leftovers around. I don't think I made this one, I used to leave the edge sharper than that. Base of the knob is ~3/8", so it's maybe 3/4" tall or a bit more, something around 5/8" largest diameter. This was the one I always liked the best and it was a lot easier to turn with my very limited skills.

Suggest the pull be walnut. John’s looks great! If the pull is stonified, you create two objects of interest and pull the eyes away from the main event.

2 cents.....Wiley

Proposal in Blackwood

Jim Matthews

The top is an eye catcher.

Do I correctly gather that no other element should compete for attention?

If remnants of the drawer front remain, could they be shaped (as shown) and dyed subtly darker - just enough to be seen?

I'm thinking closed on top, relief underneath for finger purchase....nothing to break the profile if viewed from above.
