finish for drawers??

Jay Lombardo

I made some baltic birch drawers for a filing cabinet and am looking for suggestions for finishing them. I once finished the inside of a chest with poly and it took years to stop smelling , lesson learned, but what would you recommend?

Thanks in advance

To quote FWW: "Oil-based polyurethane is the most durable finish you can apply by hand, and catalyzed lacquer and varnish are the most durable sprayed finishes."

I've used shellac in the past, but lately have been using Target's EM6000 waterborne lacquer. Both are odorless once dry/cured.

Shellac

Bill Tindall, E.Tn.

Buy a can of Zinsser shellac. Brush on, dry , sand 220, recoat. For drawers that slide on wood sand 2nd coat and wax.

Been doing drawers this way for many years. Makes a nice looking drawer.

Some foam brushes disintegrate in alcohol. The ones from Woodworkers Supply do not. I get the 50 piece assorted size packs and supplement with individual sizes.
