OT- computer volume

Tom Norton

Last night we were watching a show in Britbox on our laptop. But even with the volume settings set to the highest setting it was not loud enough.

Is there a way to "fix" this??

Thanks!

Dave's Not Here

Have you tried adding external speakers to your laptop? My wife had this same issue with her laptop and adding external speakers fixed it for her.

That's about it, external speakers. Odd chance you may find a setting in the Mixer or Properties but unlikely.

IMO, the entire sound industry is one that needs a make-over. I find that in movies the levels are poor ranging from too low to too loud depending on the scene and likely due to an overdose of artsification, background noises are often recorded at too high a level. Don't they realize the main thing is the plot speech not the waves lapping on the shore or traffic driving by? Then we get into the sound on TV channels where a consistent level across channels is unlikely.

I have no idea what a Britbox is but my Win10 Dell laptop has multiple places to set the volume and they don't cooperate. The volume in the controls for videos/youtube is limited by the overall speakers/headphones volume in Settings. This laptop uses Realtech Audio so yours might work differently.

Does the BritBox application have its own (possibly hidden) volume control? If so you will be dealing with that and the computer's master volume control. Sometimes streaming services are not at all consistent with their audio levels and getting it right on any given computer can be a PITA. As others have said though external speakers may be of some help.

Thanks for your replies! I have adjusted both the computer and Britbox to the max volume so it appears we will have to stain to hear as we are on a cycling tour and I don't want to try to find speakers. And since we are just north of Yellowstone there aren't too many electronic stores around!

They make many "add on" speakers for Laptops, you mentioned that you do not have local shops available - here is Amazon's web site listing of these speakers. Since Covid-19 I purchase a LOT from them. Prices are normally as cheap or cheaper then local even with shipping!
