Re: Need Battery Powered Chainsaw - Recommendation

I have a Silky Sugoi. I love it, especially the weight, the maneuverability, and the speed of cut, but the problem is the power supply doesn't hold a charge like it used to.

Thanks for all the help and advice, guys. The decision was still difficult, but it's done. I ordered the Makita, with the 16" bar and an extra pair of batteries. I ordered it from Amazon, so I don't need to deal face to face with sales reps. It was significantly less expensive than the Stihl I was looking at, and I should be able to find secondary applications for the batteries. It is supposed to arrive next Tuesday, but not before the remnants of Hurricane Laura get here. In the meantime, my branch loppers, Silky saw, and myself will continue to get a workout.
Did you get PPE too?

There is lots of good feedback on the Makitas.
ANSI and OSHA regs for professionals require us to wear leg protection when using chainsaws on the ground.
The catch is that the battery and electric saws have so much torque then will likely chew through the material more than with gas saws. Still...a good idea to wear leg protection.
Less of a need for hearing protection but eye and head protection is important.
I'd sure like to hear from you after a few days o f cutting with a field report.
For sharpening one of the Pferd two-file jigs work sooooo well! PFerd and Stihl files get the most votes.

I have chaps and gloves and a helmet with a face shield and hearing protection. I also have N95 dust masks. For sharpening, I have one of these:

(N.B. that in my original post, I mentioned I already have a Stihl gas powered chain saw and a wife with a CSP (Certified Safety Professional).
