I have an antique rope bed that screws together. The ropes tied to the top of the Rails. I am getting ready to move and have lost the instructions on how to break the bed down. Does anybody know which direction do you turn the post at the footboard and headboard? Looks similar to a cannonball bed . Have somehow lost the instructions from when I purchase the bed 30 some years ago. Am getting ready to move and have no idea how to break it down.
Brenda, if you know the brand .. if there's a manufacturer's mark on it anywhere, you could contact the manufacturer. Someone there would know better than anybody. They might even send you replacement instructions.
First, you undo the ropes because their tension keeps the posts from unscrewing. Then, you turn the side rails in the opposite direction that the ropes were pulling, in other words, you turn the left rail to the left (counterclockwise) when standing over top of the rail and the right rail to the right. It's the only way it could possibly work. You should take some pics of the pattern of the ropes before you unstring the bed. Getting it restrung is a lot more complicated than taking it apart. Do you have a bed wrench for retightening the ropes?
