Going to the plain http:// version of the site yields a solid not secure from Firefox. Going to the https:// version of the site (and I really do need to update my bookmarks to reflect this) Firefox reports that the site is partially secure -- the main site is but some content such as pictures isn't.

Firefox here (Win 10) does not report anything unsecure or partially secure (I've never seen that with any web site.)

I use "pinned tabs" to access the forums in Firefox, for example:

https://www.woodcentral.com/woodworking/forum/messages.pl

https://www.woodcentral.com/woodworking/forum/turning.pl

These are the same URLs I get if I go to WoodCentral with this link with Firefox:

https://www.woodcentral.com/

then click on Messages, Turning, or another forum. The "https" is propagated. Safari on my iPad also works securely.

A puzzle. Perhaps some people are using different browser settings. I don't use Chrome or the Microsoft browser.

and clicking on the lock icon tells me that the site is only partially secure. I'd capture that message but it is one of those annoying ones that disappear immediately if you try to do anything at all -- like taking a snip.

Thank you for posting about security. I have changed my shortcuts accordingly. It also is making me check the header on various sites to see if they are secure.

I'm getting "Not Secure" no matter what...

I can use the https prefix and get to the home page all secure, but if you hit the link there for messages, it keeps coming up Not Secure.

Same type of warning in Opera (and I can't do a screen grab of that one either) but it says, just like FF, that the site is partially secure but that the images there are not. Make what you may of that.

Nailed it: inspecting a bit of the WC HTML code tells me that internally it is using an unsecured source for images. For example the WoodCentral logo is linked in as:

Note the http:// not https:// That is what is making browsers fret over the possible security problems. I don't know if it is actually a problem but that seems to be what is triggering it.

I used to all the time on my iPad. Today I added https:// to the beginning of the address so it now reads https://www.woodcentral.com/woodworking/forum/messages.pl/md/index/

and bookmarked it. The problem went away.

You are correct. We do not have a security certificate for technical reasons having to do with the huge number of photos and links embedded everywhere in this site. As I understand it, each one of those needs to be secure for the whole site to be secure, and I have yet to figure out how best to handle it. If any of you folks can offer some advice, I'll gladly follow up on it. Better yet, point me to a company or group that can do the work for an affordable price. Cost will likely be an issue. Major programming expenses are not likely to be affordable without significant outside funding.

What I can tell you is that I have never received any feedback from anyone alleging any kind of security issues related to our pages. That said, your visits here are at your own risk. If our lack of a security certificate is of overriding concern to you, you're always free to vote with your feet; I hope you won't.

If you'll look at the pic I posted earlier you'll see that I am using the https:// version. The security warning is coming up because the site itself is using non-secure links internally. Perhaps your browser doesn't warn of such things but Firefox and Opera and a few others are rather touchy about such things and puts up a warning.

That doesn't explain while Firefox on my computer never gives such a warning. Firefox 78.0.2 (64 bit) on Win10,

So the 'lock' icon has no little "!" overlaying it on your system? Odd. I'm using version 79 but nothing that I know of was changed between our two versions. Have you dialed down security settings on your version somehow? I don't know what they might be -- I've left mine at the default semi-paranoid settings.
