It is dangerous to rip with a cross cut tooth profile. The blade resistance is high which could result in loss of control. Some 8" blades are for cross cutting. Some don't say what they are for. I tried a Freud "Diablo 40 tooth Finish" blade from some big box store that is 8". It could tell when ripping it was not for ripping. Instead of breezing through the wood I was having to push hard, a risky situation. I labeled it cross cut and reserved it for this only.

Good catch. Internet search found two Freud 8" rip blades, one 22 tooth and one 24 tooth.

Your categorization doesn't address the most popular type of blade, at least for most amateur woodworkers: the combination blade, which is a compromise (somewhat more complicated) tooth grind pattern optimized to be good at both ripping and cross-cutting, but probably not excellent at both. The tooth pattern has nothing to do with the diameter of the blade. Most tablesaw blades I'm familiar with are clearly labeled rip, crosscut or combo. Of course, even that is not universal, as one of my Diablo blades is labeled for "framing" and for "wet lumber".
