OT-Need an Android expert!!

Tom Norton

I cannot seem to turn off Amber Alerts on our phones. I have gone through the Settings but not having any luck.

So if you might be able to solve this dilemma my wife will not have to get up in the middle of the night!

Thanks!

Don't know if all Android phones are the same but try this -

1. Open the settings menu.

2. Tap the “Apps & notifications” option.

3. Select the “Advanced” option.

4. Tap on “Emergency alerts.”

5. Find the “Amber alerts” option and turn it off.

That's the rub. There is no Apps& Notification option.

What sort of phone and what version of Android? The problem with Android is that it is way too modifiable and many phone makers play fast and loose with how everything operates and is displayed.

On my Pixel 3, a so-called pure Android 10 release, it is a matter of: Settings (the gear icon) -> Apps & notifications -> Advanced -> Emergency Alerts -> flip the proper switches.

Tom, your phones may be older or the version of the Android operating system may be. Those steps I listed work for my new Pixel 3A and the Android version 10 OS but my old Samsung Galaxy 3 had an older version of the operating system and the setting was under a different heading within "Settings".

You might try Googling how to turn off amber alerts for your specific phones and see what that does for you.

Just spoke with BLU těch. All their devices are made to NOT be turned off!

Guess that's that!

Before you give up see if you have one of these options in your menus.

Here are a few places to check:

Option 1 – Messenger App

Android 7 & 8 Option 1

1. Open the “Messages” app.

2. Select the “Menu” icon at the upper-right corner, then choose “Settings“.

3. Select “Advanced“.

4. Select “Wireless alerts“.

5. Select the “Menu” icon at the upper-right corner, then choose “Settings“.

6. Uncheck or check the following options as desired:

• Show extreme threats

• Show severe threats

• Show AMBER alerts

• Vibrate

Android 7 & 8 Option 2

1. Open “Settings“.

2. Select “Apps & notifications“.

3. Tap “Advanced“.

4. Choose “Emergency broadcasts“.

5. Uncheck or check the following options as desired:

• Show extreme threats

• Show severe threats

• Show AMBER alerts

• Vibrate

Note when the system get a update it will turn on the Amber alerts unless you go in and turn them off again.

I don't know if this is an option but it was suggested as one for Canadian users. The alerts only go out over LTE here it seems so if your phone will work on one of the other methods it will not get alerts. My wife's older non-LTE phone did not get alerts and my LTE-able phone did get them. Of course this likely means you would be switching back and forth morning and night. Why not turn the phone off at night?

In my Android 9 phone it is found in: Settings -- Mobile Networks -- Network Mode

If it is Android 7 you can be sure that there won't be any updates changing things.

I'm not going to weed everything out but if you Google for android 7 emergency alerts it is pretty likely to turn up something usable. Personally even though I used Android 7 I can't remember a thing about it.

I've looked at my old Nexus 5 phone which still has Android 6 on it and the alerts are accessed by Settings -> More -> Emergency Broadcasts -> Amber Alerts so you might poke around and see if your Android 7 is similar.
