Elegant feet

I do like the feet. What is this ...

I'm not sure what counting dovetails means. Some kind of relief I suppose.

I expected to see cock bead on the drawers by now. It is easy to make it too thick and then it looks crude rather than elegant like the feet. about 1/8". When you start sawing pieces off your nice drawers to accommodate it you need focus.

Thanks, Bill. Ilm glad you like them. I owe them all to you. You are a good teacher. The "What's this" item is my shooting board with the 45 degree attachment. It's dead on at 45 and at 90 with the attachment removed.

I've changed my mind about drawer inlay several times. I'm currently waiting for some banding from Matt Fujanic at Inlay Banding. It's very simple and I don't think it will distract from the walnut. I considered taking your advice and skipping the inlay altogether, but the drawers seemed to cry out for something. Haven't completely decided yet. The cock beading will come after the inlay and the key escutcheons, if the inlay happens.

At the moment, my next project is drawer slips. I can do those while I'm waiting for the inlay.

Hank, you are doing a beautiful job. The lines are elegant. The drawer dovetails are wonderful - not just the making, but the proportions. I like the restrained but flowing lines. Personally, I would not add banding, unless it was very simple and does not detract ... but then I am a minimalist.

Gilding the rose. Either cock bead or band....not both. Banding will preclude staining.

Originally I thought to have wide (3/4") banding of walnut with grain running perpendicular to the horizontal grain of the drawers. I ordered some with walnut bordered by thin strips of holly and ebony. It's lovely banding, but Bill chastened me about cluttering up the beauty f the wood. I've pondered it at length and I think he's right, so I've abandoned the wide band idea. Still I want something on the drawer fronts. I had decided early-on to make ebony diamond escutcheons for the key holes. I think the ebony will be pretty subdued and elegant on the walnut. I've ordered some 1/4" wide ebony banding bordered on both sides with very thin holly strips. I think it will look good with the ebony escutcheons and similarly subdued. We'll see when it arrives.
