Howdy. I decided to get the two part epoxy to do the floor with. Rust-Oleum Epoxy shield. I started etching the floor right after the drywallers primed the walls, and it was dry. I used muriatic acid to etch it. I opened the paint kit and it has a powered etching citrus based etcher with it. You mix it into two gallons of water and spray on. As I was reading the instructions it said do not use muriatic acid. Which leads to my question.

Did I mess up using the muriatic acid? I rinsed it twice and let it dry both time there is no flake or scale or powder on the floor. I am premiering it first to make sure all the stains are hidden.

I think you should call or e-mail Rustoleum and talk to their tech section or at least their consumer aid section.

Maybe the answer is to wash the floor with some baking soda in the water, but I don't know.

What Ralph said. Using hydrochloric acid is somewhat hazardous.

I have some doubts as to whether or not the citric acid etcher would be strong enough to do much actual etching. The pH of organic acids is higher than that of hydrochloric and other "mineral" acids - so the rate of reaction w/ the concrete would be slower.

You should be fine. People have been using hydrochloric acid to etch floors for years.

Baking soda wash

well I went and did another baking soda rinse and applied the primer today. So far so good. I used the citrus stuff on my driveway and it didn't fizz or clean any thing I could tell. So far so good
