Making a steady rest.....pt 1

When summer ends in Michigan, its time to get back into the shop and I like to get the feel for my tools and woodworking again by making something simple and useful.....this year its a steady rest for the lathe.
I start out glueing up a work blank of plywood and making a careful layout.....
I cut the circular opening using a router and circle jig that is secured to the blank with a screw.....
Before cutting the circle free from the back side, I secure it so it will not move by screwing some scrap into the waste area of the blank.....
Now, I can make my cut.....
And we have progress.....
