Highlight the target text by putting the cursor at one end of the text, press down the left mouse button, drag to the end of the text to which you wish to apply a format, release the mouse button, click on the option in the bar above.

Incidentally, you can physically type in the preferred formatting, e.g., type [ u ]and [ /u ] inside square brackets minus the additional spaces I put there either side of the text you want in italics. Simples , and Slainte.

The various editing choices are available to those with a profile. You can post without a profile, but you run into limitations, this being one of them.

Instructions on how to set up a profile can be found at the link below. Since you've already posted, Wood Central's software will assume you want to set up your profile under the name you used for your last post, and will bring you in at Step 3 of the instructions - which bypasses the critical first two steps in which you establish your password. You need to delete the cookies in your browser in order to follow the steps, unless you've got your browser software set to refuse cookies.

I've always been pretty good at reading upside down text but their vertical position handling for individual characters makes it more challenging!

but regardless of case it appears to still follow the character ascender and descender codes for above and below the x-height and baseline for the un-inverted characters.

I'd like to find the code descriptions and see what's possible. The algorithm on that web pate, at least, substitutes suitable characters as possible for inversions:

Looks like it doesn't know what to do with upper case "Q", "%", and some others.

And the "flip" mode is odd, more of a 180-deg rotation of each character instead of the whole like like the "reverse" mode. Perhaps codes don't exist for a true inversion.

Bill, I meant to mention the FAQs in the menu box above has some basic instructions:

Q: I notice that some messages contain text formatting? How do I do that?

A: If you are a registered user, you will see text formatting buttons above the message text box of the post form. Hover your mouse over the buttons to see what they do. To apply a format to a section of text, highlight that section and click the appropriate button. Our message forms also accept standard HTML markup, again provided you are a registered user.

Note that if you use a color code but put an empty line between some of the lines for spacing the color quits after the first line/paragraph. In the text above I hand to insert the appropriate color codes between the two parts.

I feel your pain when it comes to computer arcana. In this case, it's pretty easy to do what you want. When you hit the I key, it inserts a pair of bracketed entities -- the opening and closing italics commands -- into your message, with the cursor blinking between them. The cursor indicates that you are ready to enter the text that you want to italicize there. The command doesn't show up in the message-post textarea, only in the final display.

One simple way, as someone mentioned, is to type your message and then highlight text that you want to format and then click whichever formatting icon is desired.

If you want to know what each icon means, hover your mouse over the icon to see a brief description.

) are heavier and/or bolder renderings of the text, and the "A" icons are to increase or decrease the size of the rendered font. The rest should be self explanatory, with the possible exception of the Quote icon. This

indents the text that is selected.
