There is too much hatred and anger in this world. It's become a world where instead of resolving an issue, it's become common place to first think about killing. I find this extremely distressing and morn for the future of our children and grandchildren who will have to endure the division and hatred in this world we will give them. I don't see anything funny about your satirical association to gun violence John.

Dick, it is satire. I think John was less humorous than he was wry, and I believe he did not add to the level of hate and anger in our world.

Exhortations to resolve problems (they are not "issues") beg the question that problems can be resolved. Personally, I approach anger and irresponsibility by my conduct and involvement with my children and grandchildren.

John's post was not tasteful, and I grant you that, but neither was it inflammatory. It certainly did not offend me.

let me be clear. I hate violence, especially gun violence. What I was simply saying is, there are 20,000 gun laws on the books now. Adding a few more will have 0 affect on gun violence. It's the people not weapon that is to blame for any violence. People blame guns for the violence but in my opinion it's mass media. You can go online and read all the hate you want about whatever group you happen to be against. This only adds to the hate going around.

Was I being Satirical. Yes and no. I'll bet you money there will be new laws introduced to try and make circular saws safer and less likely to kill someone.

Being able to say whatever you wish online without fear of retribution is causing irreversible harm to our world. We should all simply be trying to help each other which is what I do every day.

Maybe there's a better forum somewhere

This certainly reads like a very strong position on one side of the national debate about gun ownership issues. The original post was not simply an informational post when it went on and on. It has no place on what has always been an apolitical forum on woodworking topics.

If you hold those views on gun violence you might want to not use the term "gun violence", that is focus group tested term to abet anti gun ideas.

I don't think they will pass more rules on saws, unless sawstop gets into that market.

From a woodworking perspective there aren't many suitable circ saws any more now that Skill is gone. I am buying up old 77s so as to have what I need, which is probably not much at this point. I have to say the old 77s are an armful at this point. My Dewalt belt saw has spoiled me.

I had an old Craftsman that I used for 35 years or more. When I started building this new shop I decided it was time to get a new one. Man what a saw. It cuts clean and accurately and is powerful and quiet. There may be better ones out there but i love this one.

But when a post is made on a very political hotspot like gun control, wouldn't you expect some push back? For me the objectionable point was humor being tied to a brutal murder. Families will be ruined, the murderer's as well the the man killed. Lives are changed forever in an extremely shocking way. So an attempted humorous post that starts out with a gruesome murder story, followed by, "and the funny part is....." just continues to devalue human life.

When I worked in a mental institution, there was a guy who did himself in by jamming a sharp pencil into his brain through an eye socket. Anything can be dangerous if used that way.

Yep. Try this - get a paper straw. Flimsy, right? Then get a big potato. Hold the potato in you non-dominant hand with your palm out of the way. Wrap your fingers around the straw and put your thumb tightly over the open end.

Now stab the potato fast and hard. The straw goes right through the potato. The air pressure inside the straw keeps the straw firm. YOu could kill a person by hitting them in the neck with a paper straw. Plastic even easier.

Damn near everything is dangerous or can be used as a weapon. We just need to get rid of people. That solves the problem.
