Half-inch Plywood

>I asked earlier about making a kitchen island cooktop hood out of wood with the mechanicals inside. Got to wondering, is there any reason I should not use half-inch plywood instead of 3/4 inch as this will be essentially a "shell" enclosing the metal factory made filter/fan/lights? My concern is the weight pulling the joints apart.

>Half-inch plywood ought to be fine. One of my suppliers carries 3/8" baltic birch ply that I've started using for stuff where weight is a concern. The 3/8" BB ought to work fine, too, if you can find it.
