Drawing an elipse

>I am doing a cutout in a cypress mantle to accomodate the stovepipe to clear the mantle by 6 inches. I need to draw 1/2 of an elipse for this purpose to trace onto the mantle to do the cutout.
Has anyone had any experience at this. Thanks.
