Planer/Tool Caddy question?

>I've been considering making a tool caddy to stand near my lathe. I have a Dewalt planer mounted on a metal base I happened to have. It sometimes gets drafted to serve the tool caddy funtion. I have several problems with the planer set up as it is. The wheels are too small, its aobut two inches taller than the Bandsaw table and the metal base does not allow for storage. Small shop blues.
Now, I have the base that came off my DC. (Don't ask why.) I was thinking that I could make a base cabinet that fit on the base and lower the planer so that it was the same height as the Bandsaw table. That way it could serve as an infeed or out feed support for the BS, or at least be out of the way. The wheels are larger than the current ones so it would roll easier. The base is larger than the current one, so I could design in some tool caddy functions and storage.
The planer gets parked between the BS and Lathe anyway.
So, does all this make sense? I guess what is bothering me is the somewhat odd combination of turning tools and the planer. OTOH, I seldom use the planer and lathe at the same time so there is no reason there would be a serious conflict. Anyone have any suggestions or reasons why this is or is not a good idea?
