>Guys and or gals. I am looking for anyone who has and uses a PSI Utility Grip 4 Jaw Chuck. Product #CUG3418C. I contacted PSI asking to buy a set of slides for my chuck. During the talk I was told that I should not be able to remove all 4 slides from it. They tell me that it is unsafe this way. I have used it for almost a year with no problems. Would like to now if there are any others out there like mine. Thanks in advance George

Yes it is not very safe for a four jaw or any jaw chuck to have the jaws come out, but as long as they are only spun when they are clamping on a part there is not much of a problem. I use metal lathes and teach students how to use them. Never turn on a lathe with a jaw type chuck without the jaw being tightened down. Fortunally, I have never seen a jaw fly out of the chuck, but I have heard stories. As for your chuck and PSI. PSI is probably covering their A.. by telling you it is unsafe and don't use the chuck.
