OT - ? on Search

Hoa Dinh in Alameda

>I'm trying to search for a message I posted some time last year. In the "Search Messages" page, I enter:

- Posted between 15 October 2006 and 8 February 2007

- Messages posted by Hoa Dinh

The "Search Results" says on the top, "Messages Posted Between

15 October 2006 and 8 February 2007."

But the messages listed below are dated only back to 4 December 2006.

What am I missing?

>Hoa,

Maybe I'm confused but search the archives for anything prior to 11/30/2006. Search regular message for after 11/30/2006.

I searched the archives for your date range for posts only by you and received a number of messages.

Maybe I don't understand the question... you wouldn't be the first to call me clueless!

Yes, Joe

>I was able to figure that out after staring at it for a while. But what confuses me is that the "Search" (not Search Archive) screen says:

Oldest available message: 31 December 1969

Newest available message: 8 February 2007

And the fields have been pre-filled with the above dates.

I realize Ellis moves old messages to "Messages Archive." But I don't know the cut-off date without going there. And when I'm there, I see:

Oldest available message: 15 September 2001

Newest available message: 30 November 2006

What happens to the messages from 31 December 1969 to 15 September 2001? (I don't have a need for them, just being curious).

Thanks,

-- Hoa

>The first 38,902 messages from our current software (WebBBS), as well as all the messages from our original software (a custom app), are no longer housed on our server. You will have to get a copy of our archive disk to see them. The earliest message still indexed in our messages archive dates from 15 September 2001. The 1969 date displayed by our search interface is bogus. Near as I can tell, it is a figment of something that used to exist somewhere in the archives, or it is a default date that the system puts in there when it doesn't know what else to do. Given the amount of detective work it would likely take to investigate further, I've never made sorting it out a priority. It's a glitch for sure and I'm sorry about it.
