Bandsaw Blade prices

>Just reviewed the latest invoice for bandsaw blades and I nearly fell of my seat. We bought 28 blades in varying lengthes (19'-0" - 8'-3") and various widthes (1/8" - 1/2") and the bill was $584.60. Has anyone else noticed the hike in prices over the last few years?

Yes, I have noticed the hike in prices over the past few years. Hiked a few myself.

>Thats a positive way to put a spin on it. Just kind of hard to swallow knowing we used to pay less than $9.00 for a 1/4" x 99" 3tpi blade a few years ago and now we are paying $18.36 for the same blade.

My advise is, if you feel that prices will continue to increase, and if you have the budget, is to buy more blades at current prices. I did something similar last year end and stocked up on building materials. I am about 20% ahead.

Of course, now I feel the need to go and order a few dozen bandsaw blades tonight.

>There have been many discussions of bandsaw blades here over the years, Wilbur. The perennial winners always seem to be the Woodslicer blade from Highland Hardware and the Timberwolf from Suffolk Machinery. I use them both, but I also run carbide tipped blades from Lenox when I want very smooth cuts in dense or exotic woods. I have had great luck with their quality of cut and longevity, but I understand that they may not be cost effective for casual users, since they cost about 10 times as much as a standard blade.

>and buy a little silver soldering rig for maybe $30 and make your own. I haven't checked lately but used to be one could save some money that way. Doesn't take long to put a blade together and if you do a half dozen or more at a time the cost is next to nothing once you own the stock.
