I don't know if the site is given correctly or not, but I do notice there is no "s" following the http, meaning you are being sent to s site that is not securely encrypted. It may lead you to the proper secure location for login or some phishing operation. You can log into eBay in the normal manner, check on the item and seller, check for messages there. You can log into Paypal in like manner.

they'll let you know if the message is legit or not.

I really don't think that it is legit and someone is phishing you to get your account number and password.

Go you your "My eBay" page. On the left side of the page you will see "message", click on it. If Ebay sent you a message it will be in your message folder. This is a quick way, to see if a message you received from eBay is on the up and up.

Forward the email to spoof@ebay.com (spoof@paypay.com for PayPal scams). You'll get an email back shortly letting you know whether or not the email is from Ebay (PayPal).

To date, I have had more than a hundred similar emails. None has ever been legitimate.

They let me know when to log on to my account using the bookmarks in my browser to check up on things. I won't even link directly to my account out of an email that I believe is legitimate. They never send you a real email that isn't also repeated on your page as accessed from your regular browser bookmark.

I sell quite a bit of stuff on eBay (Miller2u2) I no longer look at messages that come to my e-mail and just check there every day. I still have to check the e-mail for things sold on Tia's though

I had some one log on to eBay using my account and started listing stuff. I called Ebay on there 800 # and let them know as they were doing it. I had to give sworn breafing here in town and sign a complaint. The person was arested and if I have to go to CA and testify eBay will pay for my travil. They take that stuff real seriously. Every one should change there passwords regulary.

>Your eBay and PayPal accoutns aren't tied, are they? You can have one eBay account and more than one PayPal account (I think). When you send the buyer an invoice you might specify which PayPal account to use.

So if I hacked into your eBay account, sold something, I could send the buyer an invoice, or email them, and ask them to pay my PayPal account. They wouldn't know the difference. And by the time they eralzied they didn't receive the goods, I'd have the money and you'd have the bad name.

I'm not sure about this, but I can imagine how it could be done. But now that I think about how easy it would be to do, perhaps eBay has already found a way to prevent this.

>Scott, Did the email start with your name, or Dear Ebay member? Ebay and Paypal both use your real name in ALL correspondnce. They also will never tell you to clock on a link inside the email. In any case, if you doubt the validity, scroll down to the bottom of the email and click on the "Full Headers: line, then forward all the info to " spoof@ebay( or Paypal).com to notify them of the potential problem.They shoul send you a confirmation emailwithib 60 minutes.

>Ebay and Paypla are seperate but the same. You can have more that one paypla account they just can't be attached to the same bank or credit card. What they do is hack into your ebay account usualy thru your e-mail account or so Ebay wants you to think. Then they change you preferances and start listing hot items that sell fast for $$$ that they do not intend to ship. I have several Paypal accounts one that accepts credit cards and two that don't I also have the accounts set up at the bank so money will not be allowed to be transfered out of them electronically. I must phisicaly go and transfer or withdraw the money. if some one trys to withdraw they get an insufficiant funds notice. I have seperate accounts for buying and selling. You need to have an electronic condom when using the internet for money matters. Play safe play fair don't get infected!

Basically, it seems to hinge on not having a complex enough password, though, and not changing it, so thehackers have chance after chance after chance to get by.
