What's the general rule here?

Bri in Mtl

>For newly completed projects is it better to post pics in the Shop shots section or on this main forum? I've noticed both occuring.

I normally, as I'm sure others do also, don't check out the Shop shots.(I thought they were shots of workShops -that's the name, no?) I would've missed some of those great projects referenced below by Mr. Yoho if notice hadn't been made here.

FWIW I prefer phots of projects initially posted her and then added to the Shopshot section later.

No real rule, but...

>What some do is to post a picture on the boards of the project, then send in more detail and possibly progress shots to the shop shots.

>There is no rule about posting project shots.

You are right about Shop Shots being a section for all things shop related. We're not only interested in shop pictures, which show how individuals have organized their workspace but also any jigs or fixtures they come up with that makes a job easier or safer, old woodworking tools or machinery they've refurbished or modified to perform better, and finished projects built in your shops. While the latter is the predominant submissions we receive, we love to see what other woodworker are doing in their own shops to make things work and flow better.

Many times you'll see project shots shared on the messageboards, which is great. Sometimes those projects are later submitted to me for Shop Shots and sometimes when one catches my eye, I'll write the person posting the project about creating a Shop Shot of their project.

The way I look at it, posting on a messageboard provides a certain amount of instant gratification where posting in Shop Shots preserves that project for all to see going forward. I always post a message when new shots are posted so folks know about them and can have a look while they're here.

Thanks for asking,

David
