15" Planer

>I'm thinking about purchasing a planer and was wondering if any of you have experiance with the 15" planer from Grizzly with the spiral cutting head. While visiting there showroom in Springfield, I was able look and listen to the 20" that they had in the workshop. Seemed to me, to be a pretty good machine.

Any comments or suggestions of maybe a differant brand would be greatly appreciated. I might add that this is just for my own personal hobby shop.

Thanks

Danny

>If you are talking about the Grizzly 1021X, I think you will be pleased with it. I received delivery of mine a little over a week ago and just ran my first lumber through it today. I am very impressed with the quality, fit, finish, and performance. I have never had a machine so ready to use right out of the crate.

>I have the Griz 8" jointer with the segmented spiral head. I was in the market for the Griz 20" planer with the same head but it was not in stock when I purchased mine. I have the Yorkcraft 20" with the Byrd head. It was not a whole lot more money and I do like Wilke Machinery personnel better than Grizzly. The Yorkcraft I purchased has the cast iron table extensions. The Byrd head is a little more expensive, I can't see a whole lot of difference in the results on highly figured wood between the Grizzly and Byrd carbide segmented heads. There is a huge amount of difference between the spiral heads and the plain cutter heads I had in my old jointer and planer.
