>does anyone have plans for making a draw bench or have any pics that i can copy? my son is teaching a bow making class in college, and I need to make about a half-dozen of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Once upon a time I thought I saw a bench that had an adjustable table height, I thought it might have been on the wood working channel but I am not sure. I need to start on these benches relatively soon, so any help anyone could give me would be much appreciated, thank you

>I built one probably twenty years ago. I made it based on the design found in Foxfire, a series of books based on the mountain people who lived in the Appalacian mountains. I don't have any pics. I found the books just now on Amazon, but I didn't realize there are 10 or more volumes. Maybe someone else that does carving, has read those books, has an idea which book it's in. Mine are in the attic. I'm guessing it would be in an earlier eddition.

Good luck, Dave

Barry Irby

>Roy Underhill (did I get his name right?) of the Wood Wrights Shop uses one from time to time.

It has a seat on one end and a thing that looks sort of like a horse's head that clamps the work. There are rungs that are attached to the "head" by levers and you put your feet on them to apply pressure to the work. You probably knew all this, but I was surprised that I did.

You might try searching for his web site. He is affiliated with a college in NC.

You might also post your question on the Hand Tools Message board, they might know more. (Wouldn't take much to know more than I do about this.)

>Vince - is a draw bench the same animal as a "shaving horse"? I've used them in the process of chair making. If so, a quick search in Google turns up several simple plans. I know there are much more elaborate types with adjustable seats, variable length holddowns, etc. but for a simple one, these plans seem adequate.

Hope this is what you're looking for.

>If you are looking for a draw horse or shaving mule, I got plans from the Country Workshop. He also has plans for a more traditional shaving horse on his site (http://countryworkshops.org/New%20CW/Shaving%20Horse%20Plans.html).
