Lacquer-Followup to Shellac Question Below

Mike Fitterling

>Thanks for the help regarding spraying shellac and temperature. I successfully finished the last coat of shellac yesterday. Now I will be faced with the same situation doing the final lacquer topcoats. Good chance of rain rest of the week so I won't be spraying the lacquer until Monday or Tuesday. So, what kind of minimum temperature am I looking for before dragging all those cab doors out for spraying with lacquer?

TIA

Mike

>I've sprayed solvent lacquers successfully down to 55 degrees. In some respects the cooler temps are an advantage; they don't flash as fast and level better. Also, I think they are less likely to blush. Just stretch out your schedule.

Thanks

>That's good news. This time of year when the rain is gone and conditions are otherwise right for spraying the temps are usually in the mid to low 60s.
