>I am going to be visting Orlando and Siesta Key. In between visting Mickey and relaxing on the beach in Siesta Key I would like to check out some wood related places. What tool stores, galleries, museums, etc. should I see in the Orlando, Tampa and Sarasota areas? They can be turning related.

Thanks in advance for any help ...

Why not call...

Ellis Walentine

>...Router & Power Woodworking magazine (formerly American Router). They are located in Tampa and can probably steer you to all the local attractions, including the Jesada factory. The number is 813-881-0887.

If you want to shop for wood, you might want to visit Cocobolo, Inc. in Pinellas Park (call 727-521-0616 for directions) and/or Hardwood Lumber & Millwork in Lakeland (863-646-8681). Both are Woodfinder suppliers, so you can check out their listings in Woodfinder to get a better idea of what they have to offer.

Have fun,

>You didn't say when you will be down here, but on the 24th of March we are having a get-together at my shop in Lake Wales (southwest of Orlando). Free (good) food and a couple dozen woodworkers, including some from Woodcentral.

Also, in this little town there is a used machinery dealer, Barber's Machinery. Lots and lots of medium to large industrial woodoworking machines, some vintage. Lookingf for a 36" bandsaw? He's probably got it. Also lots of used motors, many three phase (useful for building rotary phase converters), a pallet filled with vises another with fences, etc. Also has a HUGE stock of cypress.

>Marty,

Take a short trip up to Casselberry and go to Amazon Exotic Hardwoods. He has turning wood as well lumber. Be forwarned you can leave there with a shoebox not quite full that cost over $150. And there's Utter Guys in Sanford or Lake Mary.

While up that way stop in Winter Park at Timothy's Gallery and there's a couple more in the area. If you're going around the 16th of Mar they'll have the big Art Show in Winter Park.

>Thank you for identifing places to check out while on vacation.

Mike I appreciate your invitation but I am not in Florida at the time. I am sure your get-together will be a great event and hope to see pictures of it on WC.

I hope I have enough free time to explore some of these places. I will have to travel light to not exceed my baggage weight limits on the charter flight back.

All the best ...
