sparking drill press motor

>I have a 3-year old Delta drill press...floor model. This afternoon when I turned it on to do some work, I noticed some significant blue-white sparking coming from within the motor, and there was also plenty of vibration. Needless to say, it freaked me out! Can't say I['ve run across this before! There was no burning smell, however....just the sparking. WOuld it be a DIY repair, or best left to a motor repair expert?
