John C Campbell Folk School *LINK*

>You can't have more fun than this place. It's like going to summer camp for adults. The food is great the atmosphere is great and you learn a lot in the workshops.

Another good place is the Appalachian Center For Crafts in Smithville, Tn. This is a good place for the summer workshops but if you really want to learn woodworking this is a great school. It's part of Tennessee Technological University so you can get a degree as well as learn from the other mediums such as glass, metals, ceramics and fibers.

Local Technical College maybe ? *LINK*

>A Quick search only gave me a cabinet making class in Charleston but classes might be under Building or construction classes.

Maybe you could kit the local building supply houses or woodworking machinery sales and ask about local woodworkers. Most woodworkers, especially hobby woodworkers, love to talk to and visit with fellow woodworkers.

If the link don't work, cut and paste.......Basil

>How about a local Woodcraft Store or Highland Hardware if you are not too far from Atlanta. These would be one or two day sessions but might fit what you want.

Arrowmont in Gatlinberg, TN has classes.

>There are Woodcraft stores in Greenville and Charleston which have classes. Both Columbia and Greenville (maybe others) have woodworkers club with helpful programs. The Columbia club meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the months Sept. thru May. Columbia also has a turners group that meets on Saturdays year round. Email if you need more info.

>There are unfortunately very few. I believe self education is the ticket. You will learn an incredible amount by reading, haunting the internet and by doing. Get in there and build some basic furniture. An incredible amount can be accomplished with very basic tools and tenacity. I live near Ridgeville, you are always welcome to stop and chat.

>As John Lucas said the food is great and the atmosphere wonderful. And if you want to make it a "vacation", there are plenty of classes for others to take - all the way from Basketry to Weaving. Good for a week or a weekend.
