Band saw fence?

Consider the Kreg

Charles R. Smith

>Have a look at the Kreg bandsaw fence (www.kregtool.com). I have one on a 17" General bandsaw, and love it. It takes all sorts of abuse, and still handles fine measurements using the add-on microadjust system. I opted for the longer fence, as the standard one is designed for 14 inch bandsaws. The longer fence comes in 2 and 4 foot lengths (e.g. Heavy Duty Trak 2' length Model #KMS7702). I've no connection to Kreg, other than being a satisfied user.

>I am in the process of making a new fence for my recently aquired parks 18". I have always used a single point fence held in place with a 'C' clamp. unfortunately the design of the parks is such that there is not enough clearance at the back of the table for a clamp. The parks also does not have rails on the table. what I have come up with is a solution that solves two problems.

The table is machined for a miter guage, something I think is right up there in usefulness as a screen door on a submarine. I have milled a strip of wood and epoxied a couple of 'T' nuts mortised in to the bottom. One nut is in line with the front of the blade and the other is towards the back. the strip is epoxied into the miter slot which gives me two mounting points for a fence with two slots cut in the base.

The delimia I am having and why I responded is I am undecided on how tall to make the fence. the saw has a resaw capacity of 12". The design of the guides is such that if I make the fence 12" if I wish to lower the guides the fence will interfere. unless I am cutting 1 1/4' thick boards. Right now I am thinking of making the fence 9" tall. There is no reason for that size other than it seemed to just look like a nice size. something that will support taller boards and not so tall that the guides will be an excessive distance from a shorter board. for the really small stuff I can use double sideed tape on 3x3 block of hardwood I curently have on hand for that reason. Any thoughts?
