A vastly easier alternative

>It is hard for me to believe that people would go through the trouble of melting wax and mixing it with solvent when it has been done for you and is most likely already in your shop. Like most finishing pros, I simply stick the screw into the nearest tin of paste wax. Having holes in paste wax does no harm, and the can is the perfect shape for access to a lot of wax surface and is already at the perfect consistency. This idea is neither new nor mine -- it was common practice in my first pro finishing job back in 1972, and way before.
Another advantage is that when I have to set a lot of screws, I simply stick them all into the wax, head up, where they stay ready to grab and already waxed. The tin moves with me to the work.
