Shop insulation question

Phil Joines Krum Texas

>I'm thinking about puting foil covered foam board on the top of the ceiling joists in the shop and adding bats and sheetrock latter when I have the cash.

The foil is suposed to reflect the heat and the foam boards will keep the heat from escaping now.

Would adding standard FG bats cause a problem with trapped moisture?

>The foam boards and the foil will provide the vapor barrier where it belongs, on the warm side. I assume subsequent fiberglass would go outside of the foam boards. But check out the costs. Fiberglass is relatively inexpensive compared to the foam boards, at least on a $ per R value basis.

That's what I did!

>The attic space above my shop serves as a storage area for christmas decorations and the like. I floored over the top of the ceiling joists for the storage area. When I added insulation to the attic I was unable to do so in the storage area due to this flooring. As a means to add R-value, I added aluminum faced insulation board on the underside of the ceiling joists. It seems to have helped. the heat loss through the shop roof seems to be less (based on observation of decreased snow melt and icecicle formation as compared to other years). The snow on the roof of this part of the house appears to be the same as the rest of the house. In previous years, the snow always disappeared off the shop roof directly above the storage area first. This year the snow coverage is staying pretty uniform.
