Potential scam using Pop. Wood. as cover?

Denis Chnard, Orlans, Ont.

>Received an e-mail this morning, allegedly from [email protected], promoting their book club.

Nothing wrong so far, except that Thunderbird flagged that e-mail as being a potential scam. The whole "ad" is linked to fwpubs.sparklist.com which sounds suspicious to me.

Furthermore, that e-mail was sent to an address that I hardly use anymore, although it's still (obviously) active.

Has anyone else received that e-mail? I don't mind if it's legitimate, but I'm erring on the side of caution (I receive enough spam already)...

TIA,

DC

>Denis,

I received the same message, it came from their newsletter server so it got through my spam filters. Sparklist is an email list manager server.....

>Denis,

I received two of them! It's not a scam, promise. It's a legitimate offer from us and if you haven't ever had any experience with the Woodworker's Book Club, I hope you'll take a second to consider the opportunity. I'm not sure what list they were mailing to, but we send out these opportunities a couple of times a year. If the message offended, our apologies.

>The message is from Popular Woodworking so not to worry. F+W Publications is the publisher/parent company. Nonetheless, thanks for your diligence.

>Not offended at all, just wary of scams/phishing/whatever crap thieves come up with... Just upgraded Thunderbird, I guess that it has a very sensitive trigger by default...

Thanks for the response,

Wary of Popular Woodworking

Yonak

>A couple of years ago I got a letter from Popular Woodworking saying I was past due in payment for a year's subscription. I never ordered it, nor did I receive it and I sent them a letter saying so. Their response was a threatening letter saying they were sending it to a collection agency. I sent them a certified letter, copied my attorney, demanding proof. I didn't hear from them again until the other day when they sent me a promotional offer. I'm prepared if they try that again.

>David--when did you get promoted to the book division?

Or is it a promotion? I hope so.
