Might need a new router.....Need

Shakey

>Hi guys- My Freud 2000 router is throwing fits. The speed is going up & down on its own. I took the top off of it and checked everything, looked o.k.. Bearings feel o.k..........I'm thinking its the speed control module. I talked to Freud about it and the tech. man said a new module is around $70 plus shipping & the module is non-returnable. So if I send it in for repair, I'm looking at $100 or possibly more. I'm thinking I'd be better off just buying a new one. I've had it since 1997, but haven't used it alot. Does any mail-order company have a good price on the Freud 2000? If so, who and how much? I just got back into hobby woodworking after a three year layoff, so I don't know who's selling what and for how much. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The router will always run at full speed. But that will allow you to buy some time while looking for a replacement. If you are like me, you use the router at full speed most of the time.

Both the venerable Freud FT2000 and the Hitachi M12V have been replaced by newer models. There are units from old stock around, however.

If you want a Hitachi M12V, check out the link below. $125 delivered is a good price. I was thinking about buying it myself.

>Hoa- Don't know if I can bypass the module or not. The reason I want a Freud is I use it in the router table only and already have a WoodHaven plate set-up. Couldn't have happened at a worse time. I'm building an oak end table and need to do a bunch more routing, mainly prfoling the edges.I could do it with the Dewalt, but I like to use the table whenever I can.

I blew out everyhting several

>times, but I can always try it again. I think it's the module. I remember quite a few years ago I had the same problem. Took it to a shop and had it checked out and they said everything was o.k. Hasn't acted up all these years. I checked the brushes, all connectors.....

I'm having a hard time trying to decide whether to send it in for repair or buy a new one. Amazon.com has one for $190. If it is the module, with shipping both ways I'll have $100 in repairs, so for another $90 I can have a new one. Probably not as good as my old one, but..

>I've had an FT2000E since around 1997. Lightly used but so far so good. If you don't feel snakebit by Freud, You might consider the FT3000(?) that just coming out. It's supposed to have the table-mount benefits of the FT1700 which gets very good reviews, only with "3 1/4" h.p.(3 1/4 hp on 120 volts & 13 amps? Uh Huh.)
