>I sort of discovered through burning scraps that your fireplace can tell you a bit about woods moisture content. I've thrown in some pieces I thought to be quite dry, and they hiss for quite a while. The oak is especially good at holding onto it's water. 2x4 scraps, generally kiln dried dont seem to have much water at all. Plywood is pretty dry too.

Just thought it was kinda neat.
