>I have to finish 30 cherry table 3ft x 4ft, square edge detail.
Sadly they will be stained a dark walnut brown to match a commercial maple chair that was purchased. It will be a brushed on poly finish on location. I am notorious for sanding through finishes & cutting through the stain? Cherry blotchiness would be nice to deal with but I may ignore that tendency. So here are my thoughts.
water thin coat of poly to seal
sand 400
NGR stain applied with 36" wide custom foam squeege, 1 pass(I never tried this but have thought about it)
sand 600
3 coats of gloss poly, either varathane water base or their quick dry, or zinzer quick 15,
steel wool to satin, later
