Gluing Soft Maple

>I need to joint a quantity of soft maple, and I find in my reference book that this timber is "difficult to glue" Can anyone advise me on this aspect? - I wish to edge join using a glue-line bit. The final construction will involve dado joints (which shouldn't be a problem because of their mechanical strength) and corner rabbets. If gluing is problematic, would I be better off using biscuits for the edge joints and corner joints? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

>I'm not sure that soft maples are hard to glue, I remember seeing a project from 30 years ago & the joints were holding up. I would say use your most reliable glue whatever that may be but probably just a pva. Re. the glue line bit, I haven't used one but recently did a bunch of square newel post with a lock miter bit. though it was great for the clamping, it took a long time to set end which doesn't usually scare me, just keep in mind things are rarely perfect in WW.

In my case running a 5ft 1 x 5 accross a router table. thickness can vary up to .005 from one edge to another, boards are rarely dead flat along the face or edges, so when run across a router table & fence there will be variation. compared to your 1 or 2 foot set up piece.

Persoanlly I would go with biscuits

>The furniture industry glues mountains of soft maple with yellow glue. I don't see how it would be any different to glue than any other hardwood.
