>I have read to use a 5000K spiral fluorescent 30 w bulb indoors to take digital pictures. I believe this would be used instead of a flash and is supposed to be the next thing to sunlight. Any truth to this and if so details.
Could this be used instead of a light tent, and could these bulbs be used with a light tent.?
>Ben If they are truly 5000k they will work with the flash setting on your white balance. You will have much longer exposures so you will need a tripod. The advantage over flash is you can use any f stop you want to control the depth of field. This should work with or without the booth. The only problem with the small spiral lights is thier size. Small lights produce small highlights and harsh shadows. Large lights produce large softer highlights and soft shadows. That's the reason for the light booth. The light booth produces a sort of cloudy day look with big broad highlights and soft shadows. It is not a cure all unfortunately.
Sometimes the photo booth produces nasty reflections of itself. I don't know what your trying to shoot or I could help you more. Feel free to e-mail me images of what your shooting and a shot showing your lighting placement and I can help you solve problems.
My suggestion for most things is to start with one light and shine it through a panel like the ones you use for your light booth. Then try using a large white card to bounce light back into the shadow side. If your shooting furniture it gets a little more complicated but we can work it out.
I shoot artwork and sometimes furniture almost every single day so I can usually solve your problems.
I think you have answered my question. They will not lite a very large area without the shadows simply because they cannot flood because of the size of bulb.
