>Chances are that if there is snow on the ground, there is also snow on the trees which would muffle a lot of sounds, also rooftops which would absorb a lot of sound. another idea, if there is alot of snow on the ground, perhaps there is a dramatic decrease in people making noise. Wish I could cancel out those rolling boomboxes out on the roads. If left to my own devices, I'd use a .30-.30 do it, but Johnny Law takes a pretty dim view on that idea.
