OT WIN XP (Home) and new computer

Dustmaker Mike

>I have at least two Xeon motherboards and four processors I can get my hands on. They are 3.0 G processor and dual (mP) MBs with a lot of ram and HD space. I seem to remember that if I take my HD out of my current computer and place it with the new MB that WIN XP (Home) needs to be re registered again. Or something like that. I know I have to get the Drivers and junk Win requires.

So will it work with out re registering it and the next question is will WIN XP home edition work on a dual Xeon MB with dual Xeons in it? Or do I have to get WIN XP Pro or stay with a one processor MB?

Next is the Video Card and monitor I can get ahold of but them I know about.

>Basically you can't just take a hd out of one computer and install it in another unless they have identical hardware. It just won't work. In the case of XP, you can't even do that because it registers the serial numbers of hardware components with M$. You can reinstall the software on a new computer and then call them and tell them that you have decommissioned one computer and installed the same software on another computer, and that will be OK, but otherwise, it won't work.

I don't believe that home edition has dual Xeon support. You probably need XP Pro for that, and perhaps 2003 Server.

>Why would you need dual xeon processors and why would you want to run Windows XP Home with it? Actually. I'm jealous, would love to have the processors.

Thanks

>I was pretty sure the Home edition would not work on it but sometimes you have to hear it. I have 2003 Server but I am not sure if I want to paly with it at home. I guess I will build it and see what OS looks the best after I get it done.

Thanks Again
