Questions on Wood flooring?

>Saw a picture of Cherry Flooring that was two years old. Under the rug was much lighter in color than that exposed to the sun. The claim was that the FINISH darkened. True or Not True. I thought it was the wood that darkened. What is the name of the process that darkens the wood? Photo something?
On pet stains. Has anyone ever heard of anyone successfully removing them? The suggestion was to bleach them out, but to bleach the entire room. My experience is that if you do you will have a very un-natural looking floor and that if you sand away the bleached wood, the stain will "reappear".
