WC Weekend Accomplishments....

Dennis E. Peacock

>Well Good Morning to you,

I hope this find each of you safe and warm.

It's been raining here for the past month.....well....ok, maybe not a month, maybe more like 4 days. My driveway has been pretty much under water since Saturday morning and now it's just point the car towards the road and hope you stay on the driveway on your way there. I know some of you have been going through this recent ice storm and I hope and pray that each of you have survived the storms as well as keeping safe and warm.

The computer desk is now all but finished. I have 10 coats of lacquer on this baby and 4 of those are clear gloss. The two tops are now in here in the house curing (and staying dry) until this coming weekend when I will toss on some water and rottenstone and rub out the top to make is a smoother overall finish.

I've at least "started" on the kitchen table and now I have to make a 7 drawer dresser for some friends of ours that are having their first baby and they desperately need furniture and I just couldn't turn them down.

I've been working a LOT at the day job and looks like things aren't going to let up for a while, so my shop time will be limited.

On the good news side, I have at least started turning a bowl and is on my lathe at this time. I just have to find time to finish it.

It's STILL raining here today and I have hopes that it will stop soon.

So what did YOU do this weekend?

Best of weeks to you all.

Dennis

>No shop time for me.

My Dad passed away Saturday morning, so I took the weekend off.

Clarence Evans was an 81 year young, retired Baptist minister, though he never quite understood that retirement means you get to stop working if you want. He still had a list of 20 shut-ins that he visited every week until something let go in his brain on Tuesday and let the blood out.

Fortunately, he didn't linger for weeks. He just went on to his well-earned reward.

>No shop time for me this weekend. Even if I had the time, it was way too cold to be working out there. Spent a good part of the weekend replacing most of the parts on the door out to the garage in an effort to make the door more air-tight. It's definitely a lot better, but there's a couple of spots in the lower corners I need to fill with some kind of weatherstripping.

Have a great week!

David

I am very sorry for your loss. My prayers are with you and your family..you have been in them for some time.

Your father sounds like the kind of person I would have enjoyed meeting...just knowing he made the world a better place is a special feeling for you I know.

Peace,

>Gary - Sorry to hear about your loss - my Dad passed away in '05. Still remember my first workbench he set up in the garage.

Spent all last week recovering from sinus surgery - tough to stay out of the shop. I did talk my wife into letting me go down on Sat to cut some plastic. Building a better overarm guard for the TS (improved dust collection).

Hope to cut a piece of wood this week (with airshield on - of course).

>Hello all,

Got a good portion of a PA spice box I am constructed completed. I have the case and the drawer dividers done. The door and the moldings are all milled. I just have to glue on the moldings and the bottom.

Then I start all the small little drawers, should be fun.

Wax On, Wax Off.

George@Colonel's Workshop-Havertown PA

>Good Morning Dennis and a Happy Monday,

I decided to revise my plans to build a master bedroom suite in the Thomas Moser style and began looking at other designs. Rather S4Sing my remaining stocks of cherry prematuirely, I decided to tune up various power tools and wax their surfaces. First, I disassembled my DeWalt 733 planer and cleaned and lubricated the height adjustment mechanism, which really needed it. Now it moves easily over its entire range of travel. I broke down my bandsaw, tuned everything, installed a new band, and waxed all surfaces. Did the same with the table saw and combo sander. Then decided to refinish the table saw's right wing, and wax that. We had a couple kids and grandkids for the family dinner party. My sons retired to the shop where one of them cut hair and the rest drank up my Lord Chesterfield Ale. Good time for all. Have a great week.

Went to the Wood Works Show...

Don O.

>in Springfield, MA with my wife. She had such a good time that she and I are signed up for a beginner woodworking course at the Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking for the end of March. I'm as excited as she is since I'm mostly a turner but want to learn more about flat work.

More Cabinet Work

Mike Fitterling

>Sanded, and sanded, then I sanded some more. After drum sanding on Thursday and Friday on the walnut slab doors, I went to work with the ROS; first sanding away any striations (left by the drum sander's 120 grit) with 100 grit, then following up with 220, leaving a nice smooth surface. Got all the wall cabinet and peninsula cabinet doors done (about 160 square feet each side). Hoping to have the first cabinets sprayed and finished by the weekend if the weather holds here.
