multi router plans

McKay

>I remember from awhile ago that someone had plans for a shop made multi router. I did a search, but did not come up with anything. I don't have the money to purchase the multi thousand $ multi-router that is commercially available, so the next alternative comes to mind. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

>You can make your own using good drawer slides in place of linear bearings, but it is not as tight as linear bearings. I prefer to scavenge my linear bearings and rods from old line printers. This makes the cost of building one next to nothing, only some time.

Dale,

I'll post pics when mine is finished.

He is in Mexico!

>Hi George,

I have not been at all active on this forum, or in woodworking for that matter for the last couple of years. I stop by to read the posts from time to time, but rarely post.

I have changed jobs a couple of times recently and I am now VP of a small automation firm in TN. This keeps me too busy to pursue any hobbies. I am working in Mexico about 50% of the time for the near future. I miss the gatherings of WoodCentral and plan on attending one when I can.

Hope all is well with you!

Regards,

Dan Barber

>Hi Dan,

I just a look at your machine and it is our loss that you do not have the time to come up with more gems like this. If I might, did you have a chance to use it? How did it work, anything you would change etc, etc.

Thanks again for your post, I am now in search of old printers etc for parts

>I've made a few chairs and a small table with the tool. It works quite well, but one thing I would change is the tracks that the hold down mounts to. It simply is not sturdy enough.

Re:linear bearing option...

>Linear beargs are more than overkill in this application. Commercial slot mortisers are simple cast iron dovetails as it's a light duty cycle. A much simpler and cheaper overlooked option is bronze bushings on simple steel shafting avaialable from a good hardware store.

Good point

>It really is overkill, I'm just looking to use parts I can salvage. I think bronze bushings and steel shafts are just the ticket.
