OT: Winter Weather

Ink Man

>I'm sitting up here in Minnesota, thinking how nice our winter has been so far. Today is the first really wintry day we have had, low of -4 and a high of 9 above. First day I didn't want to be outside (except for ice fishing) all winter. How's the weather been where you are at?

We finally got a reasonable amount of snow

Don in Northern Arizona

>We have been missed by all the storms that dumped on Colorado and New Mexico. Yesterday and today we got about a foot of snow. It will stay for a few days. The high is supposed to stay below freezing until Wednesday and the lows in the -2 range. The new shop is warm and cozy though.

Robert Hutchins

>The high here (central Texas) yesterday was in the low 70's. We had a cold front and attendant storms (tornado about 6 miles away) blow in yesterday afternoon. The high today was about 42 (at 7:00 this morning) and it's about 32 at the momeent. We've had over 4 inches of rain today (we only got about 23 inches all of 2006) and a couple inches in two storms since the first of the year. That's about 20% of our average annual rainfall. It looks like we dodged the ice storm bullet that folks north of Dallas got.

It's Winter?

Jack Guzman from Maine

>Looking around here you'd think it was spring.Ground is dry with hints of green. There aren't even any minute traces of crusted snow in the woods. No ice so--no ice fishing. One Mainer who runs an ice shack business has gone so far as to set up floating shacks. The good news is we're supposed to get a big storm followed by cold weather this week.At least they're getting snow in Colorado.---Jack in tropical southern Maine.

>You mean it's winter now?

;-)

Even for Atlanta we've been awfully warm. Supposed to be in the 70's on Monday. I tried putting my mower up for the season last week (later than normal), and the grass keeps growing! grrrrrr... Daffodils pushed up a couple weeks ago, etc. Who says there's no such thing as global warming? (that's NOT offered as an attempt to start another conversation.....!)

>Well, I think there is something to this global warming. Earlier this week, we still had lakes in Minnesota that hadn't frozen yet. I've never seen that before. Looks like we are in for a stretch of "normal" weather for the next several weeks, though. Nothing like -5 with a 15 mph wind to put a little spring in your step. What we really need here is some snow. So far this winter, we have actually had more rain than snow. At least with the below zero weather coming in, the ice should be thick enough to drive on soon. I hate having to walk out to my fish house!

Very little snow here in Walker

Howard Norman-Prescott, AZ

>I would guess that we got two inches of snow out of this latest storm. It is much colder, 8 degrees at 8:30 this morning when I went outside, it may have got up to 22 this afternoon. I know that it was twenty degrees at four pm. We need moisture.

Here in Central Oregon

Gary Camp, Bend, Oregon

>It's been mostly dry, a couple of rainy storms and just a couple of snow storms never more than a few inches. There is a trace on the ground right now, and the temp is supposed to go down to zero tonight. On the other hand, at work, 25 miles Sw of my home we have 114" of snow on the ground.

Well, depending on where in MN you call home,

Bruce, a MN Galoot

>tonight might be the night. At least we're forecast from 4-6" of snow west of the cities. We've been successful in fending off winter this far, let's just hope for a little more before spring starts. Riding season is just around the corner.

>Bruce-I call St. Cloud home and have just seen the forecast on the NWS web site. Does look like winter may return. I for one don't mind winter that much, but as I age, I find that I enjoy "riding season" more and more. Summers in Minnesota are wonderful. Winter, though, is a great time to get back to the shop and practice making sawdust. And I seem to need a lot of practice.

I actually used the shovel to clear the driveway before I went to a quick auction around noon.

I guess its that time of the year around here....a bit late too I might add.
