Corner Post Dovetail Box  (cross posted)

Brian in Dawson Creek

>Birch and Poplar were used here but next time I plan to use wood with more contrast, but this was a test piece so all the wood came from the scrap bin I was starting to feel guilty about the size of some of the contents in my scrap bin.

Eight coats of wipe on poly.

OH WOW!!!

Todd O. Cronkhite Maine Native, Presently Away

>Brian, that is a SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET little box!!! I REALLY like how you framed that knot in the lid, that is georgous! Many folks would of considered that a bad piece of wood, so I congratulate you on your decision to use it, and make it part of the design.

What are you going to use it for?

Your count is going to go thru the roof, because I know many folks are going to go back and look at it many times! I know I am anyhow.

Can I come pick thru your scrap bin? ;~)

>Beautiful box...great corner post joints...the figuring on the lid is striking...and while it is subjective I like the contrast you have now.

>Thank you And NO you cant pick through my scrap bin as Im just not sure just whats left in it.

Not sure what will become of the box, thats not my department. Its now up to the LOML, if she like it it stays, if not its out of here. (She has a fair collection of boxes now)

>I knew that was coming and I knew it was going to come from you.

I tried, honest I did (not on this box though) Let just say If Rob Cosman was teaching the coarse Id have to stay after class.

Most excellent box. Well done young man.

Dave Smith, Longview, WA

>Hi Brian,

I think the contrast is about right. I personally don't like extreme contrast as most of the time it is too garish. What is the size?

Got any idea how much shipping is from Longview, WA, 98632 to Dawson Creek? Email me your complete address and I will calculate shipping cost. My scrap bin is my whole shop. I believe you could do wonders with a lot of cutoffs I have stacking up.

I have watched your progress over the years and marvel at your improvement with each box you make. Thanks for taking the time to post pictures. Because of time constraints I don't often post responses but I seldom miss your post and pictures.

Dave Smith

Only 23 teeth chattering degrees F this morning in Longview, WA.

>Thanks for the kind words Dave The LOML is taking a liking to this box so Im afraid shipping is out. She claims the ones she likes the best and the rest go to our local art gallery who are claiming that their inventory is getting low.

>Hello Brian,

If there were a whole bunch of beautiful, well crafted boxes arrayed on a counter, yours would be the one I'd notice first and want most of all.

I do so hate to disappoint!

Joanne Adler in Pt. Pleasant, PA

>I was just teasin'. I figured these were with a jig. They are so perfect. Not that I don't think that with practice you COULD do such nice dovetails by hand . . . . Still, it IS a beautiful piece. Keep 'em coming.

Joanne is right.

Dave Smith, Longview, WA

>Brian I want to send you some scraps. I have a lot of black walnut and bigleaf maple pieces I will never miss. I only ask you to pay the shipping which I thought was a good deal.
