I've been pondering...

>on how high up to prune my pine trees that I walk through to get to my shop for the past year or so. I've think me have found the answer: wait till you get a ton of ice on them and prune 3 feet over your head, : ' >...Wood box is full of firewood, kitchen is full of goodies, now if we just don't loose the lights, this will be a great week-end in the shop. >Dang, are you getting that kind of weather over there? Is it heading my way? I have not been paying attention to the weather lately, I have been so busy.

I hope your power don't fail. K

>Not sure where you be, Keith. I'm an hour SE of Tulsa, as the car drives, Tahlequah, actually Keys American, : ' >. Me think the weather is moving N.E. Strange, the air temp according to the puter has been between 34~37 and the trees are glistening with ice. Something here I don't understand. My son says: the puter is wrong, kinda think he might be right.

>Hey Dale, I am over in LR, AR. I knew where you are, and when I went to weather.com after your heads-up, my eyes got a little wide looking at the weather that was over you, and still seems to be this morning.

I decided I had better get some wood in last night. How thick is the ice over there this morning? Is it time to break out the skates yet?

>Keith,

No snow yet, had over 2" of rain. Trees are still covered with ice, even at 4' above the ground and the temp is 34 degrees. Air temp is taken at about 4', go figure. But, then again, the reporting weather station is some 15 miles to the south of me.

Tulsa is reporting a different picture, 24 temp last I heard. Just came back from the shop, think I'll take a nap, did not sleep well last night, me think I was worried around the power not coming back on. Dale

Hey Dale, Are you still able to get out?

Keith Newton

>Man, I can believe how that purple cloud cover on the radar has just hung right there over you. That kind of weather can be so destructive. Has some of it been melting along, or has it just kept building?

We had one of those huge buildup's back in 00 that just tore up the trees, and what was worse was the team of Mexicans that the power companies sent out afterwards.

Hey I am reading a book that I'll bet you would know something about. it is "The Worst Hart Time" by Timothy Eagan. It is about the drought of the 30's a bit west of you. I'll bet you knew some people who went through those times. I knew a few of them. I just didn't know how tough it really was. I don't know how they hung on as long as they did. Folks were tougher back then.

Knowing that you are a forester, I was wondering if you ever closely study the ring patterns, and take notice of the rings from those years? I have a friend David Sthaley at the U of A who is a PHD dendrochronologist. I think he has done some studies over in your area. I met him a about 15 years ago, and have really learned a lot from following his studies.
