Look at their thermoplastic mesh under "raw materials" although that may put you into a painting application for the black.

Photoflex uses a black nylon webbed fabric for their grids. Maybe black gaffers tape might work. Good luck on this one.

Corregated Platic?

They had some of the Elmer's poster board which is white foam sandwiched between two single-ply cardboard material.

And then they had corregated cardboard.... just like the regular corregated cardboard them make boexes out of, except instead of paper sheets, it was plastic: platic top skin, plastic wavy thing in the middle, plastic bottom skin.

Would something like that work?

I did special effects in a former life and it is what we used for a lot of things like lightbox frames. It's the same stuff kino-flo uses for their lights. It can be hinged, taped and glued with silicon. Readily available from sign making supply places in various colors.
