Among the places you'll find (I can't remember the place myself) is one in Lakeland that seems to be well regarded by lots of people in the central/gulf side of the state.
Enjoy your visit.

DickL in Tampa
>Have not had a chance to visit the place in Lakeland, so I can't comment on quality. It had better be good though. They quoted me a price of $7.40 bd ft for 4/4 rough cherry.

Two good sources in Sarasota and Pinellas Park

Right off I-75. North American and exotic hardwoods. Friendly staff. Large inventory. Typical Florida prices (you'll learn what that means soon enough). They'll let you pick through their stock. Where I go (I'm in Venice) when I need a few sticks of the usual subjects.
Not in WoodFinder and no current internet presence, btw.

Excellent quality. Very good prices for tropicals/exotics: 4/4 Canarywood's 7/bf, fustic's 6/bf, jatoba's 4/bf. Good idea to phone ahead. Their 15/bf cocobolo is way nicer than similarly-priced cocobolo from other dealers, IMO.

Finally, if you're looking for something big, very unusual or 'special', and it's not mid-summer (as they close for a couple months, or so), you could take a day trip to Alva Hardwoods (near Ft. Myers). If you're buying more than a couple turning squares you may opt to rob a bank or two on the way. Some stuff's quite affordable, some's pricey. Depends. Wear at least one extra pair if you're buying ebony or pink ivory.

Call for a quote and current pricelist if you intend to try Hardwood Lumber & Millwork in Lakeland. I'd use them if I lived in Eastern Hillsborough or Western Polk counties, maybe.
