And Another thing......Stupid stuff servay

Stupid Stuff:

My Dewalt surfacer came with a dust collector attachment or hood. Works great, except that the power cord comes off the left side and the DC hose comes off the right side. Why? Should I step over the DC hose or walk on the power cord? Would it have been difficult to make them both go off the same side, or better yet make them adjustable so I can choose which side? The poorly thought out design that passes for engineering today.

And whats the story on tape rules. They are clearly designed for lefties. If I hold the tape in my right hand so the numbers are right side up, I have to hold the pencil in my left hand. If I hold the tape in my left hand, the numbers are upside down. As a somewhat dyslexic person, I cant tell you how many mistakes this has lead to. OTOH, the lefties deserve a win once in a while.

>For years my pet peeve with "dumb design" has been the location of mounting holes for range hoods. The ONLY way to use them is to cut two strips of wood and fasten them under the cabinet that invaribly is over the stove. Without these strips the hood is somewhere between 1/2 and 3/4 of an inch from the wood the holes line up with. Even if that problem didn't exist, the holes are placed where you are usually going to be shooting screws through 1/4 masonite.

I always drill holes in the top at the sides and shoot screws into the frame of the cabinet. You would think somebody would eventually put the mounting holes there at the factory.

Toolwise, the dust bag on my belt sander definitely placed with the southpaw in mind.

>I have a Bosch 6" RO sander. The dust collection bag is under the handle. When you turn the sander on, it blows the bag up. When the bag blows up, it pushes itself off its little hanger. Great design...

My PC router. Forget the number. 7529 I think. It's the one with the horrible switch in the handle that never stays on!!! I took the whole thing apart and hard wired it in the 'on' position and just use the main switch on the top. PC redesigned the switch/handle and call it the 8529 now I think. I called the local PC repair store and asked it I could get a retrofit kit or something and they said no. Thanks PC. I do like my other PC stuff though and the router is fine otherwise.

Who designed 3/4 rough sawn lumber. It's never 3/4. It's always about 1" or so. I feel bad for the lumber guy because he charges me for 3/4 and I'm really getting 1". Just kidding.

>Good Morning Barry,

And Who do you suppose created people with opposing arms and hands which become damaged when a chisel slips? What Carpenter would do that? :<)
