OT Instrument Repair

Ken

>My nephew has a bazuki, a stringed instrument, that has been repaired but left with a lousy finish. Due to the length of time it took to get the repair done, over 6 months, he is hesitant to take it back. He has asked me if I could touch up the finish. It is a little rough, not smooth as the original surfaces. I have never worked on an instrument before and am a bit nervous about doing it.

I have been putting this off since Christmas and he just called to ask if it is done.

My question is how to properly/safely smooth out the repaired areas?

If anyone has any experience in this area or can suggest a place to go for the information it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ken

Homestead Finishing maybe?

>Hi Ken.

I can't really help, but I can suggest contacting Jeff Jewitt. Check out his forum.

I would think his forum would be a good place to get help on repairing a finish. As well as WC of course!

Good luck.

Or Michael Dresdner

Probably lacquer, but...

>...maybe not. I agree with the Dresdner suggestion and have forwarded your note to Michael. I know he will want to know what the original finish is, and what, if any, finish was applied over it after the repairs were made. If you can figure out any of this information, post it here.
