Miter Saw Arbor/bore Question

Perplexed in Ohio

>I am thinking of buying a compound miter saw for my dad who has been into woodworking for the longest time but has never owned a CMS.

Problem is that he lives in Asia and there the voltage is different. I can't just buy one here and bring it back because most CMS draw quite a bit of current to use a transformer.

So when I was shopping for a CMS for him from british websites and asian websites of brand name saws, I discovered that they listed the 10" saws with either 25.4mm (1") or 30mm (approx 1-1/5") bores.

For saws here in the US, 10" blades have 5/8" arbors and 12" blades have 1" arbors.

Are arbors and bores the same thing? If they are the same, does it mean that the saws in some european countries and asia have larger arbors and special bladed need to be purchased for them?

Hope I can get some help on this subject. Thanks

>It's pretty self explanatory. Arbor is the shaft, bore is the hole. Buy the blade at the same place you buy the saw. Perhaps you should let your dad pick up the saw locally so he can get service should he have a problem. Saving a few dollars could cost more in the long run.
